Your Independent Candidate for North Saanich Council
We can all agree on one thing: We are lucky to live here in North Saanich!
I have always believed it is important to contribute to my community. After serving on various North Saanich commissions and committees –Jubilee, Stewardship, Healthy Living – now is the time to step up and offer more of my time, energy and experience at the Council level.
The world is changing and it is inevitable that North Saanich will too. I want to be part of the decision-making that will help guide and manage that change… keeping our community’s values intact…playing a role beyond “armchair quarterback”. I can’t promise to make decisions that will make everyone happy, but I can promise to do the best I can, with the budget at hand, for North Saanich.
We need councilors who believe in:
Good Governance and transparent decision-making
Listening, to other Council members, residents and District staff
Collaboration with Councilors, community and staff
Financial accountability and fact-based decision-making
And we need people who have the Energy to do the job and a Passion for North Saanich!
Here’s How I’ll Do The Job For You:
Governance – with a 40+ year public service career, and a Master’s in Public Administration, I respect and understand the need for solid governance principles and transparency in decision-making. Residents need to know how and why decisions are reached, what factors are considered – let’s make sure in-camera meetings only occur when they are really necessary.
Listening – means listening to, not necessarily agreeing with, every opinion. It means commitment to public consultation, scheduling informal meetings with council in each neighbourhood, and bringing BACK the Committees that have been mysteriously silenced. I look forward to holding regular times to meet with residents in informal settings – a chance to exchange ideas ….and to enjoy all the great coffee locations in our community!
Collaboration – the mayor and council should be a team of independent members, open to debating issues and listening respectfully to varying points of view from colleagues and the public. We can all learn from different points of view …. and we may even reach better decisions. Let’s not leave anyone out and let’s be clear and open on how we reach those decisions. And let’s be kind to each other.
Fiscal responsibility – we have a budget. Council needs to be responsible for weighing the value of ideas and setting priorities for how to spend. I have lots of hands-on experience delivering projects on-time and on-budget.
Energy – lots of it – I come highly recommended by my chocolate lab! I am ready to get down to work for North Saanich.
